Description:

The Laguna Foundation in partnership with the Milo Baker Chapter of the California Native Plant Society is seeking an intern to collect and assemble new and existing data for Cunningham Marsh, a privately held preserve designed to protect a unique oligotrophic marsh and associated rare and endangered plants. Work may include using a GPS to collect data at the site and assembling existing data by contacting/interviewing botanists and other conservation professionals. The final product will be one or more maps that clearly display the data and will serve as a resource to staff and volunteers working in the field. Work will be supervised by the Restoration Program Director and CNPS representatives as needed. This is a great opportunity to do real conservation work in Sonoma County that will contribute directly to the management and preservation of endangered plants in an unusual ecosystem.

Qualifications:

Basic GIS skills are essential (ability to work with data and present in map form). GPS skills useful. Interest in rare plants and ecosystems helpful. Please email describing interests and qualifications, a CV or resume, and your availability.

This is a part-time temporary position (9 months) with potential for full-time State Civil Service appointment. Salary and benefits dependent upon qualifications. Flexible schedule. Ample training and supervision provided.

The Dept. of Forestry and Fire Protection is looking to hire a GIS Technician to accomplish data capture of timber harvesting activities, fuels management projects, and other natural resource management activity.

Work entails heavy digitizing, attributing, and data management of File GeoDatabases in ArcGIS 9.2/9.3.

Experience:
· Familiarity with spatial data concepts
· Ability to read and interpret maps
· Experience editing spatial data in ArcMap (understanding of topology very helpful)
· Scrupulous attention to detail
· Willingness to learn basic elements of the California Forest Practice Rules and various Resource Management programs administered through the department
