East Bay Municipal Utility District seeks an experienced Senior Drafter (GIS Mapping Technician). Responsibilities include leading, planning, training and reviewing the work of staff, participating in the Graphical Information System (GIS) data used to produce water utility/land base maps and supporting EBMUD’s enterprise spatial database using GIS software.

Requires completion of the twelfth grade including or supplemented by courses either in GIS or cartography, and courses in mathematics related to drafting which must have included algebra, geometry and trigonometry and two years of preparing base map compilations from various data sources such as field books, street right-of-way or subdivision maps and GIS database maintenance.

Webinar on Census 2010 and American Community Survey data: 2/23 @ 2 PM EST


LibraryJournal is hosting a free webinar on Census 2010 and ACS data and how they differ from Census 2000 data

Esri Chief Demographer Lynn Wombold and CivicTechnologies President Marc Futterman are the presenters.  Lynn Wombold’s remarks will focus on methodology changes and what you need to know when using the data; Marc Futterman’s remarks will focus on the implication for libraries and public library services.

CalGIS 2012 - the 18th Annual California GIS Conference


CalGIS 2012 - the 18th Annual California GIS Conference - will take place April 11-13, 2012 at the Sheraton Sacramento. The conference features a comprehensive educational program, networking events and an exhibit hall. 
Themed “Capitalizing on Spatial Technology”, the conference opens on Wednesday, April 11 with numerous workshops, meetings, and a Levee and Wine tour. On Thursday, April 12, Scott Gregory, the State of California’s GIO, will update attendees on statewide GIS activities and priorities followed by a Town Hall session, where attendees will share their perspectives about issues impacting the profession.
Sessions on topics ranging from Web and Open Source Resources for GIS to Visual Simulations and the Use of LiDAR will provide attendees with top-quality education on Thursday and Friday. An Ignite session and a poster session will complement the multiple breakout sessions.
The California Geographic Information Association (CGIA) will honor 2012 award winners and Dr. Dawn Wright will provide a keynote address on “The Age of Science and Big Data”.
