The Department of Public Works is responsible for delivering capital improvement projects for a wide variety of City facilities and infrastructure, maintaining City facilities and fleet assets, facilitating and regulating development activities, and providing animal care and services.

WHY WITH US?
The Department of Public Works is looking for a student in Computer Science or GIS courses that is willing to work on a student project to develop an interactive map for viewing Capital Improvement Projects. You will gain practical experience and exposure by developing applications that support the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team.
POSITION DESCRIPTION & DUTIES
  • Creating services-driven web applications using Python
  • Experience creating database-driven web applications
  • Familiarity with Google Map and ArcGIS Online APIs
  • JavaScript and DOJO coding experience and debugging skills helpful
  • Experience with traditional GIS systems (e.g., Esri) is desirable
  • Ability to work collaboratively and productively in a small team

Internship at the Northwest Information Center (NWIC)

The Northwest Information Center (NWIC) of the California Historical Resources Information System is looking for interns for the Spring 2013 semester.
● 2 or 3 unit internships available ●
● You will need a faculty sponsor●

The NWIC is in the process of developing a Geographic Information System that links locational and descriptive data for our area which includes 18 coastal, Bay Area, and inland counties, from Del Norte in the north to Monterey in the south.


NWIC staff regularly assists Cultural Resources Consultants undertaking research in California archaeology, architectural history, and history; provides information to landowners, scholars, and the general public about their local, state, or federal legal requirements; and assists governmental agencies and private firms in meeting those legal requirements.
